Today, the seven most important offshore countries are increasingly focusing on expanding Farshore capacity. Many nations are preparing to enter the commercial offshore wind energy market. Japan, South Korea and the USA are gaining initial experience with smaller turbines. Norway, the USA, Canada, Brazil and India are planning to implement offshore projects in the next few years.
Offshore wind power is currently distributed more among farshore than nearshore wind farms. Farshore describes offshore locations at least three nautical miles or 5.5 km from the coast (cf. §5 Para. 36 EEG). Accordingly, a nearshore location is less than 5.5 km from the coast.
