The generation of electricity from wind energy depends on varying wind conditions and the recent highly dynamic expansion over respective years. According to the projections of the transmission system operators (TSOs), the nationwide wind power yield reached around 114,7 TWh in 2018 (see figure). Wind energy, both on-shore and off-shore, accounted for 17,5 percent of total generation. This makes wind energy the second largest generation technology after lignite. Off-shore wind energy increased generation by 19 percent from 2017 to 2018 and reached a energy yield of 20,6 TWh.
