Wind power yield in Germany

The generation of electricity from wind energy depends on varying wind conditions and the recent highly dynamic expansion over respective years. According to the projections of the transmission system operators (TSOs), the nationwide wind power yield reached

around 107.5 TWh in 2017 (see figure). Wind energy, both onshore and offshore, accounted for 16.1 percent of total generation. This makes wind energy the second largest generation technology after lignite. Offshore wind energy increased generation by more than 50 percent year-on-year to 18.2 TWh. Every sixth kilowatt hour of wind power is currently generated offshore. [AG Bruttostromerzeugung]
